The University of Bayreuth has been awarded a new Heisenberg position at the Chair of Applied Mathematics. The Heisenberg Program of the German Research Foundation (DFG) enables researchers to continue their own top-class projects at a location of their choice. The universities thus benefit from promising scientists on the verge of a professorship. 

Dr. Andrii Mironchenko comes from the University of Klagenfurt and will take up his Heisenberg position at the Chair of Applied Mathematics under the direction of Prof. Dr. Lars Grüne on 1 December. There he will be working on so-called infinite-dimensional systems: These are mathematical models that can, for example, form the basis of optimized, self-adapting and controlling traffic control systems or intelligent power grids. They are a sub-area of mathematical systems theory, which develops the foundations for controlling and stabilizing dynamic systems.

About Andrii Mironchenko

After studying applied mathematics at the University of Odessa, Ukraine, Andrii Mironchenko completed his doctorate at the University of Bremen on the stability of infinite-dimensional control systems. After a postdoctoral position at the University of Würzburg and a fellowship of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science at the Kyushu Institute of Technology, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Passau, where he completed his habilitation in 2023. He is currently working as a private lecturer at the University of Klagenfurt in Austria before coming to the University of Bayreuth in December 2024 for his Heisenberg position.
